Tom Hiddleston Agrees Alligator Loki Is The Superior Variant

ScreenRant - Feed

Tom Hiddleston has made his decision on who the superior Loki variant is - and it's definitely the alligator. Disney+'s third MCU series came to an explosive end on Wednesday, and it's certain the reverberations will be felt for some time. Already guaranteed to return for a second season, Loki spent its first 6 episodes dissecting the titular God of Mischief and pitting him against alternate versions of himself. From a female Loki going by the name Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) to a Loki who survived Avengers: Infinity War (Richard E. Grant's Classic Loki), season 1 had no shortage of tricksters.

Last week's Loki episode 5 featured the highest number of variants, with Hiddleston's Loki waking up in the Void after being pruned. There were plenty of standout Lokis to be found, but the one to have captured the attention of the internet is the alligator version of him. Fans were delighted to see an alligator with Loki's signature horns scurrying around, even if some questioned whether Alligator Loki truly is a variant of the fan favorite character.

It seems like Hiddleston himself is a fan of the scaly creature and is willing to cede his throne to him. Hiddleston participated in a Q&A session over on Tumblr in honor of the Loki finale and answered several wide-ranging questions. When faced with the query of who is the superior Loki, and why is it Alligator Loki, he had this to say:

“Two questions, I see there. OK, well, you know, what can I say? I’ve been toiling away at this character going on for 11 years. And I have given everything I can only to be upstaged, perhaps inevitably, by the one true Loki, the superior Loki, which is Alligator Loki. You know I sort of knew it was coming. I felt I was going to be substituted at some point. And I’m glad it’s finally happened. Alligator Loki has arrived. And, yeah, thrown his hat down. And the rest of us simply have to get out of the way at this point.”

Alligator Loki has become a fan favorite almost in the vein of Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian, though the Force-wielding tyke still has quite the leg up. Still, Alligator Loki has become the subject of several pieces of fan art, and Grant has even suggested he get a spin-off with Classic Loki. Making this even more special is the fact that Alligator Loki was inspired by a real life emotional support animal, thus lending an extra level of realism to his presence. Of course, seeing as Alligator Loki has a penchant for eating people's hands, it might be best that he remain fictional.

Whether Loki season 2 will bring back any of the variants from season 1 remains to be seen, but Alligator Loki might be on the top of fans' wish lists. At the same time, as anyone who has watched the finale will know, Loki will definitely have his hands full when the show returns. There might not be much time for throwbacks from season 1. Regardless of what the future holds, Alligator Loki has emerged as the VIP from the first 6 episodes, and even Hiddleston can't deny it.
