Shang-Chi Star Takes Adorable Selfie With His Own Movie Poster

ScreenRant - Feed

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings actor Simu Liu posted a selfie on Twitter with the movie's poster. Before getting cast in the upcoming Marvel film, he was known for starring as Jung in Kim's Convenience and Faaron in the Taken television series. In addition to acting, he has a background in martial arts and stunt work, having worked as a stunt performer in Heroes Reborn.

The new Marvel film is co-written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12) and co-written by Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984) and Andrew Lanham (Just Mercy). The plot follows the title character, who is highly skilled in Kung Fu. He must face the demons of his past, which are tied to the Ten Rings organization. Liu plays Shang-Chi alongside a cast including the likes of Awkwafina, Tony Chiu-Wai Leung, Michelle Yeoh, Benedict Wong, among others. The film will be released on September 3.

Liu recently posted a tweet containing a selfie with him and a poster for Shang-Chi. Along with the picture, he included a simple message of "Lol." See below to see his tweet:

In the comics, Shang-Chi's father trained him to be an assassin with unmatched fighting skills, who himself is an immortal crime lord named Fu Manchu. Shang-Chi has had many aliases, all of which involve the mention of his mastery of Kung Fu. He doesn't have superpowers in the way that many other heroes do, but his abilities in combat shouldn't be underestimated. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has displayed various fighting styles of different heroes, it'll be interesting to see how this master of martial arts is portrayed on the big screen. Hopefully, this is only the beginning of seeing diversity with Asian superheroes in the MCU.

While we can't see much of his surroundings, it's clear that this picture was taken in a local movie theater. There's no indication of what movie Liu went to see, but judging by his smile, he was clearly amused seeing the poster with him on it. If fellow moviegoers happened to recognize him walking by, it's likely that he was soon surrounded by Marvel fans in anticipation of the upcoming movie. It's not too much longer now until Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits theaters, but at least fans have funny posts like this from Liu to keep them occupied.
