Warning: This post contains spoilers for Loki episode 5
Loki’s Tara Strong, the voice of Miss Minutes, details her audition process for Marvel Studios’ series. Disney+’s latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe put Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief on a collision course with the Time Variance Authority (TVA), the bureaucratic (and nefarious) organization that dictates the flow of time. As a variant, Loki was introduced to the TVA and concepts like the Sacred Timeline courtesy of its mascot, Miss Minutes (Tara Strong), a cartoon clock reminiscent of Jurassic Park’s Mr. DNA.
As a voice actor, Strong’s prolific filmography spans almost every avenue of entertainment, and Loki’s Southern A.I.—which is “sorta both” alive and a recording—is already one of her most iconic roles. Before the series even premiered, Miss Minutes caught the attention of fans via promotional posters and trailers. Miss Minutes has appeared in three of Loki’s five episodes so far, with her latest appearance being in episode 5, "Journey into Mystery,” helping Ravonna Renslayer stall Lady Loki, a.k.a. Sylvie, and the character remains mysterious.
During a recent interview with Collider, Strong explained being cast and the secretive audition for Loki. In typical Marvel fashion, Strong knew next to nothing about her character or the respective project during the audition process. Read what Strong had to say below:
“I initially had an audition and I did not know what I was auditioning for,” said Strong. “Normally when you have an audition, you get a drawing of the character, a character description, maybe a show bible to understand the world that you're participating in, and a script. Sometimes you get a full script. This was a very small portion of sides with some limited information. I remember calling my agent saying, 'Who is this girl? Is she sentient? Is she AI? Can we get some more information?' Which they could not...So I didn't know how big this was or how important this was or how big of a show or how big of a character...I laid down one version with my own voice, one that was a little bit more AI, then one with this accent, which they really liked, and then we just played with that and it grew from there.”

Many performers have opened up about Marvel Studios’ reputation for secrecy via things like nondisclosure agreements and sides with fake names and dialogue. Sylvie actress, Sophia Di Martino, echoed Strong’s statements about the audition process and so have long-time MCU members like Elizabeth Olsen. Spoiled plot points can truly hurt the experience, and Loki is certainly a series the audience is better off knowing nothing about. Strong went on to recall her first moments interacting with Hiddleston in episode 2 when Loki suits up and studies TVA protocols such as Nexus events with the help of Miss Minutes—a moment that made everyone question the A.I.’s true nature.
Episode 5 of Loki saw Loki and Sylvie enchant Alioth with a little help from Classic Loki, clearing the way to a citadel where the TVA’s creator should be revealed. As of the fifth episode, it would appear that no one, not even Renslayer, knows this entity's true identity. However, fans have theorized the silly cartoon is much more than just a spokesperson/helper for the TVA. Is she the key to Renslayer finding Kang the Conquerer? Or, maybe Miss Minutes will embrace the rebellious A.I. and be revealed as the villain behind it all. Regardless, Loki’s final episode will reveal something Strong has been keeping to herself for quite some time.
