Animal Crossing’s Most Underappreciated Villagers | Screen Rant

ScreenRant - Feed

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is home to roughly 400 villagers. Most of these characters are somewhat unique in their own way. Some of them are downright adorable, while others have personalities than make them memorable. And while fans love to discuss who the best and the worst of them are, there are some very underappreciated villagers that need a little extra love, too.

The most popular villagers since New Horizons’ launch have usually been Marshal, Raymond, and Sherb. It is not always clear what exactly it is about these villagers that makes them fan favorites. Perhaps it is their personality type or their character design. Some villagers can even gain popularity for their houses.

With over 400 villagers in the Animal Crossing universe, it's probably no surprise that many fantastic characters fall through the cracks. Here are eight underappreciated Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers who deserve a little more love and attention.

Aurora is an absolutely adorable penguin with a Normal personality type. Her character design is very simple, but she still manages to be one of the cutest villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. What is special about her is that when she gets excited or surprised, her round eyes turn bright red. It’s quite a contrast to her calm demeanor, and it’s pretty funny when it happens. Anyone who has Aurora on their island is lucky to have her.

Another penguin, Sprinkle, has a Peppy personality type in New Horizons, and she is a bright turquoise color. Her character design almost makes her looks like a sweet treat - hence the name Sprinkle. Like the other penguins, her house interior is made of ice, but what makes her different is that all of her furniture is themed around an under-the-sea aesthetic, making her a great addition to anyone's island.

Genji is a Jock rabbit. The Jock personality type can be quite aggressive at times, but with the right villager, it can be rather charming. Genji is definitely one of those villagers who finds a nice balance between the two.

With his Japanese-inspired aesthetic, he has a really cool character design and an even cooler house. If players are looking for a great Jock villager, Genji is perfect - even if he often seems to get overlooked by a lot of players.

A Sisterly personality type, Katt is a cat villager. Her design is fairly basic, except that her canines are so pronounced that she looks like she could be a vampire. This, combined with her default black and red outfit, makes for a great spooky but subtle combination for Animal Crossing. Sisterly villagers are always great to have around. When they aren’t causing some kind of drama, they genuinely care about the player and how they’re doing.

An underappreciated Snooty villager is definitely Mint the squirrel. Mint is adorable because she is a tiny little squirrel, but she is also, literally, the color of mint. To make it even better, she perfectly matches her house, which is also mint, both inside and out. Mint is a very classy and sophisticated character, but she can also be very caring. Players who love Marshal will certainly adore Mint, too.

There are a lot of great Lazy villagers in New Horizons, but Drago really stands out. His house has a fun design that will look great in any zen garden. But most importantly, Drago is a dragon, which should make him a fan-favorite. Instead, he seems to often get overlooked by many players.

Marshal and Raymond tend to be the favorites of the Smug villagers in Animal Crossing, but Shep the dog deserves some love, too. He is an adorable sheep dog, whose hair covers his eyes. Smug villagers are smooth and charming, and Shep is no exception. His laidback, yet cool, appearance makes him different from the others, and he definitely deserves more attention.

Last, but not least, is Fang, a Cranky wolf. None of the Cranky villagers in New Horizons get enough appreciation, but Fang especially. He is a beautiful icy-white color and has a very classy house filled with rich, mahogany furniture. Not to mention, Fang will invite players he likes to go on a sailing adventure with him. He’s like a grumpy but sweet grandpa who is always great to have around.
