Warning: SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode 11, "Devil's Deal"
Lucasfilm has released a new set of character posters for their latest animated series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, this time highlighting Hera Syndulla (Vanessa Marshall). The series released on Disney+ earlier this year and serves as a spiritual successor to the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated show. Each episode of The Bad Batch has been jam-packed with Easter eggs and cameos pulling from all corners of Star Wars lore; now, Hera and her droid Chopper are the latest pre-established characters to get their time in the spotlight.
Hera Syndulla first debuted in the animated series, Star Wars: Rebels, which was the first Star Wars series released after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012. Hera quickly became a fan-favorite, with some fans affectionately referring to her as "space mom" due to her maternal role in the show. Her recent appearance in The Bad Batch – which chronologically takes place prior to the events of Rebels – fleshed out the character's earlier years, highlighting her budding rebellious nature in the face of the newly-formed Empire.
An official character poster released from the Star Wars Twitter account gives a clear look at this new youthful iteration of Hera. Despite the decade-and-a-half that separates this version of the character from her appearance in Rebels, her fierce determination still shines through as she stands framed against the deserts of Ryloth. "Devil's Deal" marks the second episode of The Bad Batch to feature characters from Rebels. The season premiere featured a young Caleb Dume (Freddie Prinze Jr.) – later known as Kanan Jarrus – during the cataclysmic events of Order 66. With Kanan, Hera, and Chopper all appearing in the show, The Bad Batch has cemented itself as the bridge between The Clone Wars and Rebels; it has also, by extension, retroactively made the titular Bad Batch instrumental to the formation of the early Rebel Alliance.
The series has also featured cameos from characters outside of Rebels as well, such as Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), Bib Fortuna (Matthew Wood), and Cad Bane (Corey Burton). To that end, the show's dedication to weaving in lore has served as a love letter to all the various stories and mediums that comprise Star Wars canon. With a little less than half the season remaining, The Bad Batch still has plenty of room to surprise audiences with more familiar faces and locales.
