Star Wars Actress Discusses Possibility of Live-Action Hera Syndulla

ScreenRant - Feed

Voice actress Vanessa Marshall has recently opened up about the possibility of bringing her Star Wars character Hera Syndulla to life in a live-action series. Marshall, a veteran voice actress who has lent her talents to some of the biggest animated films and series over the years, has worked on everything from Rick and Morty and Harley Quinn to The Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10. Marshall also boasts multiple videogame credits including entries in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Diablo III and Mortal Kombat 11.

While Marshall first joined the Star Wars franchise in 2002, doing voice-over work for the Star Wars Jedi Knight II videogame, she is best known for her casting in 2014’s Star Wars Rebels. Playing Hera Syndulla, the Twi’lek pilot of The Ghost and daughter of The Clone Wars character Cham Syndulla. Marshall’s character was even given a couple of small nods throughout 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, when her name was announced over the loudspeakers in the Rebel base on Yavin IV, and both her droid Chopper and her ship The Ghost each made cameo appearances.

Most recently, Marshall returned to the role in a recent episode of The Bad Batch, as a younger version of her character during the initial days of the Galactic Empire. Following her return to the franchise, Marshall spoke with SWNN and was asked her thoughts on the possibility of playing Hera in one of the Disney+ live-action series currently in development, and which show in particular she would prefer to join. Check out her response below:

Oh boy I can’t even answer that question. I mean, I would defer to Dave Filoni… I wouldn’t even know the answer to that question, honestly. I trust him so much that wherever he would want to see Hera, is where Hera should be. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Mandalorian fan. I love seeing Ahsoka, Bo-Katan… If Hera just rolled up, that would be outstanding. But again, I trust Lucasfilm’s judgment. Every time I imagine what could be, when it’s executed, it’s far better than anything I could ever come up with. So, wishful thinking, she ends up in any of them that works for me.

While Marshall seems to think the idea of her playing a live-action Hera may be “wishful thinking,"  the possibility is not that far-fetched after all. Not only is Hera’s creator Dave Filoni helming his own live-action Ahsoka series, but rumors are also swirling that Hera’s fellow Rebels’ crew member Sabine Wren is likely to appear. If there is any chance at seeing Marshall portray a live-action Hera, Filoni’s Ahsoka series definitely seems the most likely possibility.

It may also be possible that a live-action Hera appears in either the upcoming Andor or Obi-Wan Kenobi series, but given their setting in the Star Wars timeline that may necessitate the role being filled by a younger actress. Of those two options, Andor would seem the more likely given Hera’s heavy involvement in the Rebel Alliance during its formative years. Regardless of how it plays out, Star Wars fans are sure to keep their fingers crossed that Marshall’s fan-favorite rebel pilot finally makes the leap across from animation to live-action.
