Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed 4 new cast members joining And Just Like That..., which is the revival of Sex and the City. The romantic comedy series started on HBO in 1998, which ran until 2004. After six seasons, two feature films were released in 2008 and 2010, respectively. From 2013-2014, The CW Network aired a prequel series called The Carrie Diaries.
The series is set in New York City and told from the perspective of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker). She tells her story, along with those of her tight-knit friend group, including the likes of Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon). They each suffer from struggles across their personal, romantic, and sexual lives, as they continue to try and achieve what gives them individual happiness. Earlier this year, a continuation of the series was announced, which will star Parker, Davis, and Nixon, although Cattrall will not be returning. The ten 30-minute episodes will be released on HBO Max.
Parker went onto Instagram to welcome four new members to the cast of And Just Like That.... Sara Ramirez is Che Diaz, Nicole Ari Parker is Lisa Todd Wexley, Karen Pittman is Dr. Nya Wallace, and Sarita Choudhury is Seema Patel. Each slide of the Instagram carousel notes the phrase, "And just like that...," on the new cast members' photos. See below for Parker's Instagram post:

While these actors may be new to the Sex and the City universe, they certainly aren't newcomers to the acting scene. Ramirez is most known for her performance as Dr. Callie Torres in Grey's Anatomy. Parker most recently starred in television series such as Chicago P.D. and Empire. Pittman portrayed Mia Jordan in the Apple+ television series, The Morning Show. Meanwhile, Choudhury recently played Sophia Varma in Blindspot and Anita Rees in Little Fires Everywhere.
Given that the original cast was overwhelmingly white, a more diverse cast makes sense. Sex and the City isn't the first series to get some backlash for its casting, as Friends also severely lacks representation, while also being set in New York. This opens the door to a variety of different narratives that the original HBO series wasn't able to explore. Each of the characters in the original group of friends approach love, sex, and various types of relationships quite differently, and providing a more diverse cast allows for that notion to be expanded upon. Audiences will have to wait to see how And Just Like That... turns out, although it has potential to continue the beloved series from a more modern lens.
